TDS Rules & Tips

→ Submit investment proofs by January (month 10) to avoid high TDS in Feb-Mar. Employer adjusts the balance tax across remaining months.

→ If you don't submit proofs, employer deducts TDS conservatively (assuming no deductions). You claim refund via ITR by July 31.

→ Form 16 (Part A + Part B) from employer is your TDS certificate — essential for ITR filing. Download from TRACES portal too.

→ New regime is default from FY 2024-25. To opt for old regime, inform employer at start of financial year (April).

→ Employer cannot take 80CCD(1B) NPS deduction into account for TDS — claim this directly in ITR.
